The Monachkosville Mystery
You almost slam the brakes when the streetlamps above you flicker to life, the unnexpected shift in the environment startling you. The light is dim, however, dimmer than an old bulb might project. Your curious nature overtakes you once again and you park your car where it stands. It's not like anyone will mind. You step out to look up at the lamps, spotting dirt and grime inside the protective glass around each bulb. No wonder they aren't illuminating anything at all, they're absolutely filthy. You pause for a moment, remembering your inconclusive search for this town's Mayor.
...Something about an untreated illness. Maybe the poor bastard has rotted away in his home. It would be a fitting way to go, considering this town seems to be undergoing a similar process. You get back into your car and continue on. After less than a minute, you spot it, a dusty looking motel with ten rooms at the most. Well, it's something, isn't it? You need to get inside, get your bearings, organize your documents and leads before beginning your investigation in the morning.
You finally park and shut off your car, only now realizing you haven't yet spotted a gas station. There must be one, maybe you missed it. Though, your quarter-full tank may have to stay that way for some time more. In a town so small, is there a need to drive everywhere? The lush greenery all around makes you suddenly aware of the negative impact such a decision might make on the environment you've been so mesmerized by.
Suprisingly, there's not much of a corpse stench from the building before you, but you also can't see any sort of teller's window, or signage pointing you to some central office.
Maybe you just need to look around for a minute longer.
If there's no employees... are there even keys to collect? Maybe the room doors are open.
